What we didn’t realize was that most of them work on five or six films a year. We contacted a lot of composers, but there were a handful that we couldn’t get.

We wanted to focus on films with music that changed the industry and made other people emulate their achievements. MRS: We have sought out composers who are well known for the innovations they have brought to this industry. With over 50 on-camera interviews in “Score”, how did you determine your subject group? We have 10 hours of interviews on hard drives we will probably post them online someday. I was surprised that so many composers adopted the idea and are ready to share their secrets with us. I would regret not having taken the plunge to see if this is possible. May be Zimmer or other big names didn’t want to talk to us. But at one point I decided that if no one else was going to do this movie, I would do it myself. I kept telling myself that it would be done by someone else. MRS: I had this idea for a long time to do something about film composers.

“Score” is obviously a passionate project for you. There really hasn’t been much on this subject.

The BBC did a three part series but that did not affect the music of famous films. MAT SCHRADER: Yes, I didn’t believe it at first either. “Score” is presented as the very first documentary on film music.
